Higher doses of rifampin appear more effective in fighting TB without increasing risk of adverse events
Higher daily doses of rifampin, a cornerstone of tuberculosis treatment, killed more TB bacteria in sputum cultures, and the higher doses did so without increasing the adverse effects of treatment, according to a randomized controlled trial.

Countdown to the first-ever UN High-Level Meeting on TB
27 June 2018, Geneva - Only 90 days are left to the first-ever UN High-Level Meeting (UNHLM) on TB, which will bring together Heads of State in New York on 26 September 2018. Now is the time for everyone to engage, support, amplify messages and work to ensure a very successful event in September. The World Health Organization (WHO) and the Stop TB Partnership together with partners are working to rally highest level participation and a strong political declaration for a successful and impactful UNHLM.

Water-limited landscapes can facilitate disease transmission
In water-limited landscapes sick animals can have increased contact with healthy individuals, which can facilitate disease transmission. Scientists from the German Leibniz Institute for Zoo and Wildlife Research (Leibniz-IZW) present these findings in the British Ecological Society journal Functional Ecology.
